I heard that hamster cages can get maggots if not cleaned what are the signs.?

I got my hamster a week ago and the lady at the store said to change the bedding one a month I do it twice a week I wonder if the people at the pet stores cleaned it once a month if she could have maggots inside her is that possible what are the signs of maggots and can maggots p to humans.
