Marriage in Islam, right or wrong?

I'm young yet but this has been haunting me for some time. I don't want an arranged marriage; the thought of sleeping next to someone I don't know is impossible and just plain wrong. I am and will be a virgin on my wedding day so don't mention any of that, but in Islam can I choose MYSELF, to marry whom I adore. I would like to know them beforehand but no ual contact. Btw; I am a female. Salaam.
