Reasons why Prince Edward Island did NOT want Confederation?

Many in PEI felt that they would not gain from Confederation. In 1867 they had a very strong economy built on fishing, farming and shipbuilding. All of these industries were running very well and as a result, many people felt they simply didn't need confederation.
